However
when looking at the data recorded in 2011 literacy rate of youth (ages 15-24),
was recorded at 87.29 percent by World Bank (Literacy
rate - youth total (% of people ages 15-24) in Sudan). The fact the literacy
rate is going up in the country in recent years could be due to the fact that
Arabic is the only language that is spoken in classrooms in Sudan. Since most
of the country speaks Arabic, this could be a huge benefit. When you are
teaching someone in another language then their home language, there literacy
rates are lower.

Oil Consumption in Sudan
1. Record:
from Index Mundi
Oil Production: (2013) 247 thousand barrels per day
Oil Consumption: (2013) 95 thousand barrels per day
2. Summarize: Write a short paragraph explaining the information you discovered and conclusions you can draw. How does this information help you develop a sense of place for the country -- living conditions, social development, use of land or other resources, etc.?
From researching the information on oil production and consumption for Sudan I have discovered that Sudan produces more oil then they consume. The people of Sudan do not use as much oil as is being produced in the country. Thus the country can sale more oil to other countries to make more money for the economy of the country. This information also helps me develop a sense of place for the country in the sense that many people in the country are using resources that do not need oil as a source of fuel. I can conclude that more people walk or bike than drive cars, and less people use electricity than those that do use it.
3. Contemplate:
What questions does the information raise in your mind. Write down two questions you have based on what you have discovered.
The 2 questions that I have based on what I have discovered are:
1) What does the country do with the excess oil? Who do they sale it to?
2) What is the country doing that they are not using as much oil and how can other countries learn from this to lesson their oil consumption?
